Why Do T-Shirts Shrink?

T-shirt shrinkage is mainly due to exposure to heat and agitation. Natural fibers, like cotton, are especially prone to shrinking.

Cotton Fibers: When cotton is manufactured, its fibers are stretched and tightened. When wet with hot water and subjected to the agitation of the washing machine, and then the intense heat of the dryer, these fibers tend to relax and return to their original, more compact state, resulting in shrinkage.

How to Prevent Your T-Shirts from Shrinking

Wash with Cold Water: It's the best defense against shrinkage, print deterioration, and color fading. Cold water is sufficient to clean most garments.

Delicate Cycle: Use a gentle wash cycle to reduce agitation.

Avoid the Dryer (or Use It with Caution):

Ideally, air dry your t-shirts, hanging them on a hanger or laying them flat.

If you use a dryer, opt for the low heat cycle or, even better, a no heat cycle (air fluff). Take them out when they are still slightly damp and finish air drying.
